About Me
Maryville College
BS in Biology
Minor in Chemistry
My undergraduate degree offered me a foundation in biology and chemistry. In my upper level biology courses, I explored my interests in the natural world through courses like genetics, ecology, and physiology. Luckily, I found my niche in understanding molecular interactions after taking courses like genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology. Through the Liberal Arts core of my degree I took courses like religion, ethics, and sociology which not only enhanced my understanding of the natural sciences, but motivated me to purse a career in academia.
Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology
PhD Student @ UTK
I began my PhD in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in August 2019. Since then I have joined the lab of Dr. Francisco Barrera to study membrane protein biophysics and biochemistry.
STEM Accessibility
#STEMinist
When I was in college, I was part of a scholarship program that aimed to increase both the retention and graduation rate of STEM majors at Maryville College. The program was unique in that it targets students that would have obvious difficulties in retaining in STEM. These factors range from low ACT scores to disadvantaged socioeconomic or geographic backgrounds. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, proud Appalachian, and the owner of a low Math ACT score, I fit right in. Now I want to give back to the system that supported me in my collegiate STEM journey and be a force for STEM accesibility and equality for all of those who wish to pursue it and contribute to the knowledge of our universe.
